Chinavasion CVAK-PC12 Android Tablet Review

The Chinavasion CVAK-PC12 is an Android 2.3 tablet that offers a seven inch touch screen showing at an 800 x 480 resolution, and runs a 1.2 GHz Telechips Cortex A7 processor, four gigs of storage, 512 megs of RAM, a front facing camera for video chat and self-portrait taking, a built-in microphone and speaker, support for microSD cards up to thirty two gig and a battery life of around four hours.

Chinavasion CVAK-PC12 review

Basically, everything the earlier Chinavasion tablet failed to provide, the CVAK-PC12 provides. I tried this out on several fronts and found very satisfactory results. First, it’s got a full-sized USB port, which means it works with several breeds of external hard drive. I actually tried it with several breeds and it worked nicely–the thought of having a tablet with five hundred gigs of storage fills me with a kind of giddy joy normally reserved for children on Christmas morning. Video is smooth and audio surprisingly sharp, though with the audio, you’re just a set of headphones away from nigh-perfect clarity if you don’t like what you’re getting onboard. It even includes a program for dealing with a variety of documents, making this one a pretty solid choice as an ereader too.

Problems with the tablet are terribly minor; for instance, I’m never very pleased to see the lack of a full-sized SD card slot, but the micro one will do nicely and, failing that, it has a USB port. I had some trouble getting online with it–while it connected easily and intuitively, I couldn’t actually surf anywhere with it, so I figure that’s more a problem of the local internet than the tablet itself, but it’s something to be aware of.

And considering that the folks out at Chinavasion want just $189.42 for one of these, it’s going to be one of the better value-priced Android tablets out there.

The long and the short of it is that the CVAK-PC12 is going to be a pretty sweet tablet experience in its own right. For a value-priced tablet, it’s going to offer some pretty nice experience for the money.

The Good

Terrific video
Intuitive operation

The Bad

No full SD card slot
Internet connection issues

Score 8 / 10
